The dreaded long haul today. It was, at least, sunny and dry and pleasant. Into the car on a cold morning, set up the GPS, and off we went. Out of St. John's in about 15 minutes and the rest of Newfoundland ahead. All 884 kilometers of it. We made ourselves comfortable and motored.
To be honest, we expecting a miserable day. But the truth of it was that it was fine. We made sure we were well hydrated, kept the fuel above half-full and made plenty of pit stops. The kilometers sped by, and the scenery was beautiful and varied: mountains, table lands, bogs, flats, forests, rivers, lakes and coast. We saw it all. We were creeped out by the carcass of a dead black bear by the side of the road ( not wild"life", but wild"death" ) and a lone coyote loping across the highway in Terra Nova National Park. No moose, no caribou, no whales. Just drive, baby !
We made it into Port aux Basques around 5 pm, had a couple of cold beers, a cod dinner and collapsed into bed. Fatigue !
